Industry in a Modern City.

Client: Allied Mills

Date: 2025

Melbourne’s growth is staggering, and to maximize infrastructure efficiency, there is a strong shift toward infill development. However, this shift brings tensions between existing and future land uses, particularly in areas with industries that have served Melbourne for generations.

The 138-year-old Kensington Allied Mills facility, which supplies nearly all of Victoria's flour, is located adjacent to the Macaulay Urban Renewal area.

Eukai Transport Advisory was engaged to assess the potential impacts and recommend strategies to balance industry with urban renewal, recognizing Allied Mills' role as a critical multi-modal facility. Our work clarified modal priorities along key routes, optimized intersection designs, and established steps to ensure future community access while maintaining industrial continuity.

By fostering an appreciation of each stakeholder’s needs and challenges, our work laid the foundation for collaboration. On behalf of Allied Mills, we constructively advocated for specific considerations to inform the amendment, ensuring a strategic approach that accommodates both industrial operations and the area's evolving urban landscape.
